2. Overview

NordQuest is an outdoor activity tracking application that helps users understand their personal progress on hiking and ski trail networks and related outdoor locations. The service is private by default and designed for individual use.

3. Data We Collect

We collect personal data only when needed to operate NordQuest and when you choose to connect a supported third-party activity service such as Strava or Garmin Connect.

Account data:
- Email address
- Internal user ID
Activity data from a connected service, such as:
- Activity type (e.g. hiking, skiing)
- Distance, duration, and timestamps
- GPS track and location data
- Activity IDs and technical sync fields

We only collect the data needed to sync activities, match them to trails and places, and show your progress in the app.

4. How We Use Your Data

Your data is used solely to:

Sync activities from a connected third-party service
Match your activities to known hiking and ski trails and registered points of interest (such as hiking huts)
Calculate your personal completion statistics (e.g. percentage of trails visited)
Display your own progress and history within the app
Keep the service reliable, secure, and technically functional

All statistics are calculated for your personal use and are not shared with other users.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not:

Sell personal data
Share data with advertisers
Use activity data for targeted advertising, marketing, or profiling
Share individual activity data with other users

We only share personal data with service providers when needed to operate NordQuest.

6. Artificial Intelligence & Automated Systems

NordQuest does not use artificial intelligence, machine learning models, or AI-powered systems to process user activity data. User data is not used for AI or machine learning training.

7. Visibility and Social Features

In the current version of the app:

All activity data and statistics are private to you
There are no public profiles, leaderboards, or social features
Other users cannot see your activities or routes

8. Third-Party Activity Services

Supported third-party activity services are only accessed when you choose to connect them.

Garmin Connect

When you connect Garmin, NordQuest retrieves activity data needed to calculate your private progress and trail matching. Garmin-derived activity data is shown only to you inside NordQuest. Garmin data is not shared with any third party, and is not processed by external AI or machine learning services (see Section 6).

If social or shared features are introduced in the future, we will update this policy and obtain user consent before making any data visible to others.

Disconnecting Garmin stops future imports and triggers immediate deletion of all Garmin data, matching results, and derived statistics from NordQuest.

Strava

When you connect Strava, NordQuest retrieves activity data needed to calculate your private progress and trail matching. Strava-derived activity data is shown only to you inside NordQuest.

Strava may collect usage information related to our use of the Strava API and platform in accordance with Strava's own terms and privacy policy.

Disconnecting Strava stops future imports and triggers immediate deletion of all Strava data, matching results, and derived statistics from NordQuest.

9. Data Retention and Deletion

We keep personal data only as long as needed to run NordQuest, handle deletion requests, and meet legal or security requirements.

Data from connected activity services is kept only as needed for NordQuest and only when allowed by the relevant provider's terms.

When you delete your account or ask us to delete your data, we will delete all user-related personal data from NordQuest.

10. Data Storage and Processing

We use trusted third-party service providers and platforms to operate NordQuest.

Strava

Used only when you choose to connect your Strava account. Activity data is retrieved through the Strava API, subject to Strava's own terms and privacy policy.

Garmin Connect

Used only when you choose to connect your Garmin account. Activity data is retrieved through the Garmin Connect API, subject to Garmin's own terms and privacy policy.

Supabase

Used as our primary backend and database for storing user accounts, activities, GPS tracks, trail data, and matching results.

Railway

Used to run backend worker services that process activities, trails, and matching algorithms as part of the NordQuest service.

Sentry

Used for application error reporting and stability monitoring. Sentry may receive technical information such as device type, app version, timestamps, and error logs. We do not intentionally send full activity details or GPS tracks to Sentry. We configure Sentry to minimize personal data in logs and do not include GPS coordinates in error messages.

Personal data is stored and processed in the regions where our service providers operate (primarily EU/EEA when available). If data is processed outside the EU/EEA, appropriate safeguards are applied.

11. Data Security

We use standard security practices to protect personal data from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.

12. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your personal data
Request deletion of your data
Disconnect third-party integrations such as Strava or Garmin Connect
Contact us with privacy-related questions

To request deletion, use the in-app delete account feature or email simon@nordquest.no.

13. Changes to This Policy

If we change how NordQuest uses personal data or introduce new data features, we will update this Privacy Policy and notify users where appropriate.
